The LWL Industrial Museum at Henrichshutte keeps the centuries-old history of iron and steel in Hattingen alive. Visitors can follow “Der Weg des Eisens” (The Path of Iron) and watch the blast furnaces and casthouses where iron was smelted at 1,400 degrees Celsius. Children can join the rat, the museum’s mascot, on the Rattenweg and discover how metal was worked. In the demonstration foundry, children can also try out their own skills in the play blast furnace.
